Monday Mojo - 3 Tips to Motivate Change
Hello,
KeyStroke here.
For this week's Monday Mojo, I would like to share a few tips that I believe can be helpful for those struggling with motivation. I am a terrible procrastinator; I have grown up to realize that I hesitate to make decisions. My fear of bad decisions and permanence hold me back in many aspects of life. However, I am learning to overcome my anxieties with small steps. For instance, this blog has allowed me to present myself to the public (albeit anonymously). This blog allows me to share my interests and, hopefully, help others in similar situations.
Now, I would like to list a few tips that I believe can help bring things into perspective in life:
- Write down your goals in life
I have had many late-night goals that I often forget by morning. Writing these goals down, even if they are spur-of-the-moment, helps me understand my thought process. For instance, some of my smaller goals include helping others and sharing my interests and ideas. The idea to create this blog was a late-night moment of inspiration. However, seeing how this blog aligns with my aforementioned goals made me understand that I should go forward with the creation of this blog.
- Write down your shortcomings
I struggle with time-management. Nowadays, my mind is so busy planning that I forget to take action. Belated posts on this blog are a prime example. I started out hopeful, but I have posted late on different occasions. How can I fix this? I can schedule a few times a week to sit down and plan future posts. Taking the time to schedule ahead while I'm free will save me trouble when my schedule becomes hectic.
- Write down your fears
One example that hits home for me is choosing a college major. What's the worst that could happen? Realistically, wasted time & money. Otherwise? Nothing. Choosing a major is not permanent. If you don't like something, change it. You can't expect to know if you like something without trying it first. If you're in a position where you cannot waste money or time, take a change on free online resources. Look into career outlooks, major satisfaction, network with current students. Don't focus on the superficial reviews, dig into the lives of current students or graduated individuals. They'll shed light on the reality of the field.
